Description
The Mountain Gordlinia (×Gordlinia grandiflora) is a unique hybrid between Franklinia alatamaha and Gordonia lasianthus, combining the best traits of both species. This fast-growing, semi-evergreen tree reaches a height of 20-30 feet producing stunning white flowers with bright yellow centers from late summer into fall, long after most flowering trees have finished blooming.
With glossy, dark green leaves that turn fiery red-orange in fall, the Mountain Gordlinia offers multi-season interest. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, preferring moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Unlike some flowering trees, it has an open, airy canopy, making it a graceful focal point in any garden.
With exceptional heat tolerance and an extended bloom period, the Mountain Gordlinia is an excellent specimen tree for Southern and Mid-Atlantic landscapes. Its fragrant flowers, attractive bark, and stunning autumn foliage make it a one-of-a-kind ornamental tree.
