Chinese Fringetree is a small deciduous tree or large shrub in the olive family. It is not the same as the native white fringetree (C. virginicus)—it blooms later, after the leaves emerge, and carries its flowers in denser terminal clusters against glossy foliage.
It reaches about 15–25 feet tall and 10–20 feet wide, matching your listing size of 20 × 15. The form is rounded and spreading, often multi-stemmed, with a low-branched habit that can be trained to a single trunk. In late spring, the branches are covered in upright panicles of pure white, fringe-like flowers with four narrow petals—mildly fragrant and showy for two to three weeks. Male flowers are slightly larger; female trees produce small dark blue-black, olive-like fruit in late summer that feeds birds.
Summer foliage is leathery, glossy dark green, and more rounded than the native species. Fall color is a soft yellow, more reliable in the North. The gray-brown bark peels in thin strips, adding winter interest. Use it as a specimen, patio tree, or under-wire tree where a larger shade tree would overwhelm the space.
